Tulip Bloom: The Wonder of The Netherlands

Spring season is probably the best time to visit the Netherlands as it is when the tulips start to bloom! Being one of the symbols of the Netherlands, blooming tulips create a stunning landscape that is worth seeing at least once in a lifetime.

When to go?

In the Netherlands tulips are in bloom from mid-March till mid-May (depending on the weather), with peak flowering taking place in mid-April. The tulip blooming season is an important time for the Dutch people, so you can find all kinds of digital tools like Flower Forecasts and Flower maps to navigate you around the endless tulip fields and charming flower gardens of the country.

Where to go?

To enjoy the essence of Dutch springtime at its fullest, spend a day in Keukenhof Gardens, also known as the Garden of Europe and world's largest flower garden. Keukenhof Gardens are located between the most beautiful tulip fields in the country, stretching across thousands of acres offering some spectacular viewpoints. The Garden itself boasts over 7 million bulbs, including tulips, crocuses, hyacinths, and daffodils.  Its 15-kilometre-long walking paths wind along intricate flower mosaics, tranquil ponds, sculptures and various pavilions with restaurants and terraces. In 2024 Keukenhof Gardens will be open for only 53 days from the 21st of March to the 12th of May.

The world-famous Dutch Flower Parade will take place on the 20th of April. It will start in the morning at the beautiful beach of Noordwijk, proceed for 42 km through Sassenheim, Lisse, Keukenhof Gardens, Hillegom and finish in the centre of Haarlem City late in the evening.

What to do?

Additionally, you can opt for the exciting Tulip Experience in Amsterdam, which includes a visit to a beautiful show/selfie garden that features 1 million tulips of 700 different varieties, learn about Tulip History and Cultivation in their onsite museum and pick your own bunch of colourful tulips at the indoor picking garden.

What else?

There is a lot more to see and do in the Netherlands apart from tulips: admire magnificent 17th century architecture in Amsterdam, its picturesque canals and world-famous art museums. Explore the famous landmarks of the Hague, Delft’s charming old town, windmills of Kinderdijk and Zaanse Schans and much more.
