The Christkindlmärkte 2024 in Innsbruck, set against the stunning backdrop of the snow-capped Alps, is a delight for the senses. Visitors can wander through charming stalls adorned with twinkling lights and explore the unique blend of traditional Tyrolean culture and modern festive cheer. The iconic Golden Roof also provides a picturesque setting for the Old Town market, where you can find beautifully crafted ornaments, wooden toys, and intricate nativity scenes. For a more contemporary vibe, the Maria-Theresien-Straße market offers stylish gifts and gourmet delights, all amidst elegant light displays.

Christmas in the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania)

Tallinn, Estonia: Award-Winning Festivities

The Christmas Market in Tallinn’s Old Town was chosen as the best in Europe in 2019. Since then, it is still as attractive as ever every Christmas in Tallinn. Christmas is a time to revisit childhood and immerse oneself in the festivities. In Tallinn, there is a small Santa’s hut in the middle of the Christmas Market waiting for your visit. You can greet Santa and take a picture with him; in return, he will ask for a small favour. You won’t be able to leave without reading a poem or singing a Christmas song! There is also a stage in the market where you can enjoy Christmas concerts and dances, all free of charge.

Riga, Latvia: Heartwarming Traditions 

The Christmas Market in Riga is held in the heart of the Old Town, in the square of Dome Cathedral. There have lovely Christmas ornament shops, Latvian traditional woollen handicrafts, local honey, and of course mulled wine! Latvian herbal liquor since the 18th century, “Balsam,” is also a popular drink, to warm you up on wintery days.

Vilnius, Lithuania: Ever-Changing Christmas Tree

Vilnius has a completely different Christmas tree design every year; due to their annual themes. Over the years the trees have varied from brilliant white to regular green. The anticipation of wondering what kind of Christmas tree it will be in 2024 only adds to the festive excitement! The Christmas Market in Vilnius is in the Cathedral Square in the Old Town. There is also a very popular Christmas train that goes around the Old Town!
